In it's 35th year, TIFF is bringing Canadian back and kicking off the yearly movie fest with a homegrown film for its Gala Thursday opener. This year that honour falls to Michael McGowan's ode to our national pasttime (in song), Score: A Hockey Musical.
Starring rising Canadian youngster Noah Reid, the film follows seventeen-year old hockey prodigy Farley (Reid). Farley loves to play shinny with the local rink rats and soon finds himself signed to a major hockey league contract, where he achieves instant stardom, throwing him into a world of hype. Farley soon finds that hockey fame comes with a price, including the expectation to fight. Throughout it all he has to juggle his relationships with his hippie parents (Olivia Newton-John and Marc Jordan) and his childhood best friend, Eve (Allie MacDonald). There are men in jerseys, women in toques, and cameo appearances by notable Canucks like Nelly Furtado, George Stroumboulopoulos and Walter Gretzky. All the ingredients of the ultimate Canadian big screen feast.
Not everyone can make their way (or even get tickets) to the highly anticipated premiere at Roy Thompson Hall, but have no fear. If the above has peaked your interest then take a gander at an exclusive sneak peek behind the scenes of Score...
The Rolling Stones have hit their peak again in 2010, this time in the form of a rarely seen re-released movie of a 1972 concert.
Ladies and Gentlemen ... The Rolling Stones was originally released in late 1973 in Britain, but the film was not widely shown. The digitally remastered version, which made its global premiere on Tuesday in London, shows the Stones at their best, belting out classics like "Brown Sugar," ''You Can't Always Get What You Want" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash" along with "new" songs like "Tumbling Dice," Sweet Virginia" and "Rip This Joint."

Emma Stone's latest starring role comes in Sony Picture's fall release, Easy A. Stone takes on the role of Olive Penderghast, a clean cut high school girl who sees her life turned upside down when a lie about her lack of virginity makes its way around her high school like wildfire. Drawing parallels to the not-unfamiliar tale of Hawthorne's Hester Prynne in "The Scarlet Letter," Olive decides to take matters into her own hands and use the rumor mill to advance her social and financial standing.
The movie doesn't hit theatres until September 17 but to tide you over until then, we've got two clips from the film!
Watch them below and see if you don't fall just a little bit in love with Emma (and Olive) yourself!
I know I'm not alone in finding American politics the most unintentionally entertaining thing around so it's completely unsurprising that Hollywood is really starting to capitalise on the big screen-ready fodder that it presents. First came W, the George "Dubya" Bush bio-pic starring Josh Brolin as the former president. Next up is Casino Jack, with Kevin Spacey starring as disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff and then Fair Game, a drama about the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson starring Naomi Watts and Sean Penn. The scandal had all the markings of an edge-of-your-seat Hollywood spy thriller and now, with the film's first trailer, we see that sometimes the very best stories really are the ones happening right in front of you.
